ASD is actively involved in the issues of higher education since mach 2001. In the way that they work on the legislation that regulates (higher) education, legal team of ASD collected and translated legislations other countries which related to the higher education of persons with disabilities (of course those who adequately solved the problem) and created the amendments to the proposition of the Law of Universities of Republic of Serbia (2002) I proposition of the Law of Higher Education (2003 and 2005). ASD team had several meetings with representatives of the University, Ministry of education and sport of Republic of Serbia and student organizations and lobbied for accepting the term “student with disability” into the relevant legislature.
In September of 2005 Peoples Parliament of Republic of Serbia passed the Law for the higer education in which for the first time there is the category of the student with diasabiliy. By this law rights of the students with disabilities are regulated to an accessible conditions during the exams, lectures and accessibility of academic services and facilities. ASD have, with the cooperation of Serbian Student’s union and Alliance of students of Belgrade, participated in creation of the text of Law for student organizing, which regulates work of the student organizations and representative bodies of students on the universities in Serbia. In the last valid proposal of this law students with disabilities have, by the mechanism of affirmative action, certain representation in university parliaments and student conferences. ASD team gave amendments to the proposal for the Law for study books and academic equipment, and also working on the text of the proposal for the Law for pupil and student standard.
