Project title: Strengthening the ADS network

Target group: Partner organizations from Belgrade, Nis, Kragujevac and Podgorica –management structure

Activities: Seminars aiming at transferring knowledge and experience to new network members.

Main subjects: ADS philosophy, human rights of persons with disability, project management, fundraising, public relations, strategic planning and analyses of the organizations’ possibilities.

Period: June 2002-June 2003

Project title: Removing architectural barriers in Belgrade

Target group: Persons with disability.

Activities: Marking strategically important spots inaccessible to wheelchair users; cooperation with state institutions and seeking partners for this project; lobbying for creating accessibility policies in public services and city institutions; negotiations with object owners and institutions about installing ramps and other equipment for persons with disability; media campaign for removing architectural barriers.

Results accomplished: Over twenty ramps in public objects and institutions were installed during the campaign. ‘Beograd put’ and Parking Service have adopted slanted curbs and marking parking spots for persons with disability as their institutions’ policies carried out during reconstruction or construction of streets and parking lots. Media campaign ‘Accessible?’, including the publication of three types of flyers, a poster and a brochure, has been carried out within this project and attracted great attention of the media and the public.

The project was realized in the period of February 2002-February 2003.

Project title: Draft of changes and additions to the Law on Higher Education of Republic of Serbia.

Target group: students with disability, representatives of higher education institutions and republic authorities.

Activities: collecting and translating legal acts relating to this mater from other countries' legislation (countries who had resolved this issue in an adequate manner), creating amendments to the draft of the Law on University of Republic of Serbia (2002) as well as the draft of the law on higher education (2003), meetings with representatives of the universities, Ministry of Education and Sports of Republic of Serbia and lobbying towards introducing the term ‘student with disability’ in relevant legislation. Follow up of this project is currently being carried out as a part of the regional project of “Promotion of Inclusive Higher Education in Southeast Europe” (see above).
